THE LEGEND OF THE DRY BODY

According to this legend the "Dry Body" would have been in life a man who fought a lot and beat his own mother. Due to the incredible evil inside him, as soon as he died, he became an evil creature that is usually camouflaged in the trunks of the trees, just waiting for some spoiled child to pass by. They say that despite his badness, the Dry Body, which is also known as Unhudo, would have regretted that he mistreated his mother and for that reason he punishes all children who show stubbornness or who respond to their mothers. Perhaps it was from this that the popular saying goes: "Whoever knocks his mother is left with a dry hand."

There is also another theory about the origin of the Dry Body that says he would have been a very selfish, mean-spirited man who had grown a huge variety of fruits and grains on his farm. But after a dry season in which several people were starving, it is said that the farmer refused to share his stocks that he had stored in a huge quantity with others. The people got revolted and in the middle of the fight the farmer ended up dying of a heart attack. But after his death he would not have rested, his anger only increased and eventually turned into a cruel and vindictive creature. Legend has it that the creature that once was a farmer stands in the woods waiting for anyone who crosses his path and never lets other people approach fruit trees, which he thinks are always from his old orchard.

The legend of the Dry Body is spread all over Brazil, especially in the states of Amapá, Paraná, Amazonas and Minas Gerais. There are also some Portuguese-speaking countries that also worship this legend.

In the interior of São Paulo the legend has gained a certain "vampire" touch. They say that the corpse is camouflaged in the woods preying upon unsuspecting people, when the unfortunate one passes by his side the entity sucks all their blood making them a Dry Body as well. But if no one goes near the entity for a long time it dies of hunger and looks like a dry tree. For this reason there are many dead trees with human aspects.

In Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais, there is yet another variation of the legend. People say that the body of a woman who had been buried in the municipal cemetery did not remain in the bottom of the grave for more than a few hours. According to them, the earth expelled the body. It was as if the earth repelled the woman's body. The firefighters would have been called and in the absence of an explanation (and a solution) they would have taken the woman's body to a cave that sits in a mountain range south of the county and would have left her there for her eternal rest. But according to the locals who dare to walk the dirt road that is in the edge of the mountain, it is said that you can hear the cries and shouts of a woman coming from inside the cave. The saw where the cave is located is known as "Serra do Corpo-Seco".

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO SETEALÉM?

I have been looking for new paranormal stories these days online and came across some YouTube channels discussing parallel universes and ended up on a website where I found the story of one guy that went through a situation where he almost went to a place called SeteAlém and had made a community on the today extinct Orkut to find out if it has been an illusion or if anyone else in this world had gone through the same thing he did. His name is Luciano Milici and he is a writer and a screenwriter and here is his story:
"It all started with a BuzzFeed list entitled "9 Stories That Make You Believe In Parallel Universes," where I commented, unpretentiously, about an event that occurred to me that I could not explain rationally. Repercussion and buzz (feed) were unexpected. Hundreds of people started asking me to detail my story and others I collected from the same genre. I received and am still receiving lots of messages and friend requests from people interested in these stories.

As I told (and will repeat below), more than ten years after the experience I lived, I created a group in the extinct Orkut (R.I.P.) where I kept in touch with people who went through something very similar to my story. What was most interesting was that the name and description of the community did not explain anything, precisely so as not to influence the accounts. When the group began to distort itself, I closed the community, not without first saving the content. I am searching for the compressed file on some HD or media. While I do not find it, I leave below the cases that I remember. Before you start reading, keep five points in mind:

i. I do not know if the reports are true. I can only talk about mine. He is.
ii. I will preserve the true names of those involved, for I am not authorized to tell their personal stories even after so many years.
iii. If you are one of the people in the above cases and you want me to withdraw or correct your report, let me know.
iv. If you have had a similar experience, please send me your report for inclusion here.
v. Third-party reports have been rewritten by me. I did not change anything, I just changed the form, scored and made some corrections, without hurting the story.
Note: I do not know if the name of the "place" is written Setealém, 7 Além or Cetealém. I just heard the name, I did not read it.

Report 01: A ticket to Setealém

1994. I was in the second year of college. I was nineteen and lamented the fact that I could only take classes at night time the next year. The first two years of college were obligatory in the morning, which made it difficult to search for jobs or internships. Until then, my experience had been a long time as the manager of a video-store, which was what Netflix was called at the time.

Even living away from college, I loved the path way back. The long stretches on foot arriving at the bus stop for then taking the Subway allowed me to observe how different people were in their outfits, gestures and lines. All this was a subsidy for new stories that I wrote on a daily basis. I also used the time to read.

Normally, I would walk there to catch a bus, any bus - the first one to pass - because they all took me to a point on the avenue where I would easily access the Subway. No matter the name, number, or color of the bus, they were all obliged to go to the end of the avenue and then follow their itineraries. That was good, because I did not spend more than two minutes on the spot.

That hot October afternoon, after an exhausting Mercadology class, I followed my usual path to a large, famous avenue a few minutes from the campus. I got to the point and I put a CD, I think it was of the Zumbi Nation, in the discman. The battery was coming to an end, and Chico Science's voice sounded demonic. A bus came and stopped. I got on and replaced the discman with a book.

On average, the journey took twenty-five to thirty minutes because of the traffic, and when I was lucky to find an empty seat, I read several pages. That day, not fifteen minutes passed, and I felt the woman next to me on the bench poking me. I stopped reading and looked at her. "You're not going to Setealém, are you?" - she asked. I narrowed my eyes, trying to understand what she had said. Was it Santarem? She insisted: - This bus goes to Setealém. You better get down.

I smiled at her. The name "Setealém" had become clear, but the advice made no sense. I looked around and everyone, absolutely everyone on the bus was watching me. Another woman, standing a little further, said, "Yeah, go... come down, lad." Next to her, a young man with a briefcase in his hand nodded and was more incisive. "Come down!" Before I asked what was happening, the bus ticket reviser - who was looking at me too, with a bundle of bills in his hand - shouted at the driver: "Stop the bus, someone is getting down!"

The bus stopped shortly. There was not exactly a bus stop, but I did not care. I got up quickly from the bench and headed for the open door. The people in the corridor pushed their way along with me.

I got out. I confess that at the time dozens of thoughts came to my mind. Was it a private bus? No. There was a bus ticket reviser, after all. Did they confuse me with anyone? Perhaps.

As soon as I stepped on the asphalt, the bus resumed the road, until, strangely, it turned right onto a slope of cobblestone. An unusual path.

That name "Setealém" never left my mind. Was it a neighborhood? A city? I asked my acquaintances and even looked at the Guide to Streets, a sort of Waze from the last century, where his index finger played the role of the cart. No one has ever recognized this name anywhere or even anywhere else in the world. I know that days later I dreamed of Setealém, and since then, at least once a month, I see myself in its strange streets in my sleep.

The community on Orkut

More than ten years later, I decided to use the then popular Orkut social network to find out more about Setealém. I created a community by that name, but I did not write exactly what the group was about. I wanted the name to bring answers. It was a way to see if my delirium made any sense.

After a few weeks of marasmus, people from the furthest points of the country began to join the community asking the meaning of the term Setealém. At the same time as they asked, they also reported on their incredible experiences which, in general, closely resembled mine.

With each new interaction, an interesting story emerged until, over time, the main goal of the community became distorted and eventually became a forum for generic stories of horror and fiction.

As moderator, I deleted the community, not before copying each of the stories about Setealém.

Ps.: I'm not trying to infringe any copyrights and I did not write this post myself. This post was taken from Luciano Milici's Blog that you can visit HERE.

EL CUCUY

"Duérmete mi niño, duérmeteme ya...
Que viene el Coco y te comerá."
(sleep my child, sleep now...
or else the bogeyman will come and will eat you.)

In every culture, there is that mythological monster that gives you the feeling that there is something out there just waiting to get you.

How many of us can ever forget that frighting warning to behave good or else at night the monster under our bed would come to get us?

El cucuy (known in different regions as Coco, Cuco, Coca, or Cuca), for example, is the Spanish speaking countries equivelant to the boogie man.

El Cucuy is a mythical ghost monster with taunting pointed teeth and razor-sharp claws, that hides in closets or under beds and likes to eat misbehaving children, the ones who fail to obey authority.

In Spain and Latin America, parents and grandparents sometimes invoke El Cucuy as a way of discouraging their children from misbehaving; they sing lullabies or tell rhymes warning their children that if they don't obey their parents, el Cucuy will come and get them and then eat them.

No matter how old we are the fear is universal... once night falls, that's when the monster creatures come out!

THE LEGEND OF THE HUNTED CLOCK

This legend was well known in the eighties. The following names are fictitious.

Mr. Jones was a retired man who had as a hobby. He loved to spend his money buying antiques: buying furniture, lamps, old documents, etc.. Until one day, when a man of very poor appearance approached him. The man offered a clock that was actually very old, the price equivalent to approximately thirty dollars nowadays. John bought it quickly, and was happy to see that poor man with an expression of relief when he left.

He then asked his wife to hang that beautiful clock on the wall, just above the rocker nineteenth century. One day John was reading the newspaper, which was customary when his wife heard a very strange noise. Upon arriving in the room, she encountered a horrific scene: her husband lying on the floor, his head crushed by the clock and rocking chair collapsed to the ground. Traumatized, the lady sold the house and the furniture and moved in with relatives.

An antique dealer bought all the furniture and objects, except the clock, which was purchases by a woman in her early thirties. She was a divorced woman, who did not used to collect old objects, but had felt very drawn to this simple clock. She put the clock beside the bed since she thought it was too heavy to be hung on the wall. A week later, her children heard a strange noise coming from the woman's room. When they opened the door, they found the poor girl lying on the floor, crushed by the clock. Again, this object has been sold.

They say this clock still goes from house to house, intact always victimizing people, destroying families mysteriously.

Conclusion: If you see an antique clock being sold for a very low price, be suspicious! It may be this haunted clock, protagonist of a legend that even today gives rise to much discussion.

YOTSUYA KAIDAN - FAMOUS JAPANESE LEGEND

Yotsuya Kaidan, the story of Oiwa and Tamiya Lemon, is a tale of betrayal, murder and ghostly revenge.

One of the most famous  Japanese legends it’s Oiwa, the woman mistreated by her husband that kills herself and comes back from the dead to exact her terrifying revenge.

Oiwa, a beautiful woman, aroused the greed of Lemon, a strong warrior. Oiwa also is fueled by love for the warrior, but Oiwa's father did not like Lemon and had a bad feeling about the boy and he were right. Seeing the father of Oiwa as an impediment in his way, on a day that Lemon was drunk and met with her father he killed him with a sword.

Liar, the killer tells Oiwa that she’ll  be avenged by the killers of her father. Amazed at the goodness of the false liar, she surrenders to him and the two marry. Later, Oiwa becomes pregnant and gives birth to a baby, but she gets sick, suffering from postpartum depression and abandoned by Lemon, who gets more out than at home with his wife and son.

He then begins to show interest in Oume, daughter of a wealthy merchant. Oume was pretty bad though, and having Oiwa like a stone to hinder her path, plotted with Lemon a plan to get her out of the way once and for all. Oume gave Lemon a poison that would kill Oiwa. Lemon agreed, was selfish and Oume was rich. Lemon makes Oiwa take the poison, but she does not die, instead something terrible happens to her: her hair falls in large volume, and her beautiful face gets deformed, leaving her with a horrible appearance. Needed a pretext to separate from Oiwa, Lemon threats a local youth to seduce her. Frightened at the appearance of the woman, the young man confesses the entire plan of evil of Lemon and Oume. Bewildered and disturbed, Oiwa ends her own life by cutting her throat.

When Lemon hears what happened with Oiwa, he gets angry and kills the young man who spoiled his plan, tying him with the body of Oiwa and throwing them away in a river, and spreads to all the village that they were both lovers.

Sometime later Lemon marries Oume, but on their wedding night, Oiwa, who now became a vengeful spirit begins to haunt and disturb Lemon with macabre visions. Lemon, freaked and having macabre visions, eventually beheaded Oume since Oiwa, who only appeared to Lemon, made him look Oume but see herself, leading him to kill his wife. Oiwa did not stop there, made Lemon kill the father and mother of Oume too.

The end of the tale has many variations, from Lemon’s suicide by being driven crazy til that Oiwa could have killed him.

The people discover all the terrible plot and buries the body of Oiwa in order to give peace to the her spirit, but in vain. The hatred of the poor woman is so that her soul can not get rid of the bitterness, and so she is always launching vengeful curses on people. They say that if a person cynical and unaware visits the place where Oiwa’s body is buried, their face will be disfigured mysteriously.

Today, Oiwa's grave is inside the Temple Of Myookooji, near Sugamo Station Subway Mita Line. The temple was originally Yotshuya, but in 1909 moved to the current neighborhood. Oiwa's grave is at the foot of a tree and is a pilgrimage site for artists that represent the character in plays, such as Kabuki and summer theaters.

THE LEGEND OF THE SLENDER MAN

Some say that it all started in June, 2008 in a "Paranormal Pictures" photoshop contest launched in Something Awful Forums where contestants were required to turn ordinary pictures into something creepy or paranormal with the use of digital manipulation and that a guy by the name of Victor Surge posted two black and white pictures of unidentified children with a short description of a creature that would be "Slender Man". Others say that it may have been inspired by the villain called "Cabadath" sometimes referred as "Tall Man" of amateur adventures games entitled "Chzo Mythos" published by Ben Yahtzee Croshaw in 2003.

Nobody really knows about his origin... if he is an ET, someone from another dimension or just another new breed trying to survive. What is known is that he has been spotted right before the disappearance of many children.

Slender Man is described as a very tall and thin man like creature with big arms like tentacles or tentacles coming out of his back and no face, dressed in a black suit.

Slender Man became a well known mythical creature in many paranormal forums and boards and with time many other material about the creature popped on the internet and even some YouTuber projects like “MarbleHornets” for example started to upload entries with videos showing evidence of the real existence of this creature.

There was even an Episode of Dr Who Series called "The Silence" where a fictional religious movement led by Aliens portrayed creatures that looked just like The Slender Man – tall men like beings wearing black suits with featureless faces that had the power of mind control and made people loose memory when they looked away after seeing them.

Here it is a documentary video directed by Jared Hudson called "Slender Suits - The Documentary of the Slender Man", putting a little more light into the subject. Enjoy!

BURIED ALIVE

They say that when people are very close, even after death, they are able to communicate.

A long time ago an old lady complained of constant chest pain, but at the time the medicine did not have all the resources we have today, leading to the poor lady's death on a cold winter morning.

The funeral, as the usual, was done at home, and before arriving the night, she was buried.

Her husband, already used to live with her for so many years, was heartbroken, he would now have to face life alone, since their children were all grown up, married and lived far away.

On this same night, still feeling very lost, he tried to make something to eat, using a lantern and some lit candles on the table, when he heard the cries of his wife in the room, screaming his name.

Amid groans, she said "Emiro, help me", which left him paralyzed. Even terrified, he had to go see, then took courage, took a lamp and went to the room.

As he was approaching the room, he realized that the voice and cry were disappearing until it was complete silence. When he entered the room, saw their messy bed and did not understand because he was sure he left it tidy, but decided to go back to the kitchen. When leaving the room the crying started again, then he came back and put the lamp inside the room, trying to see something, that was when he saw the legs of his dead wife in bed, but he would not see his face because he feared what he could see.

The legs, now gray, writhing on the bed. Scared, he ran out of the room while she screamed "Emiro, help me", and then her voice trailed off.

The fear had taken hold of him, so he decided to stay on the porch smoking his pipe to calm down because he had nowhere to go. Without the courage to get inside the house, he ended up sleeping on the porch.

But his nightmare had just begun. He ended up dreaming that his wife was in the coffin, and "clawed desperately trying to leave the lid until her nails began to disengage from her flesh, her mouth went dry and she could not find the air anymore, until completely lost her strength and with her eyes wide open and look of dread, she died. "

Startled, he woke up in the balcony, almost breathless, as if he was inside the coffin. Trying to calm down, he stopped, breathed, and decided to talk to their children. His brother tried to calm him, saying it was nothing, it was just a nightmare he had because he was still reeling from the recent loss.

But for him, something was wrong, so he decided to ask the sheriff to exhume his wife's body, but this was denied, since there was not any evidence, and dreams could not prove anything.

The same nightmare was repeated for several days and increasingly seemed more and more real, leaving the husband increasingly terrified and unsure of what to do. Desperate and crying, he decided to again ask the sheriff who scared and worried about the man's state of mind, decided to grant the request.

When the coffin was opened, they heard screaming. Terrified people started crying watching the scene. "The coffin lid was scratched, his wife's mouth and eyes wide open, as in the dream."

This was the last day anyone doubted a dream.

FIVE REALLY SCARY URBAN LEGENDS

Scary urban legends exist almost everywhere. Many urban legends are real stories that have changed over time to the point where they are no longer recognizable as the original story. Other urban legends are simply made up stories that have no basis in truth. These particular urban legend of this post have thrilled people for several generations and they still are some of the most common legends told at slumber parties and camping trips.

Don't Answer The Phone

A babysitter was watching television one night after putting the kids to bed, and the phone rang. When she answered it there was no one on the other end - just a sound of breath.

Two minutes later, the phone rang again. This time a hysterical laughter burst out of the phone. Concerned, she called the operator, who told her that they would trace the call.

When the phone rang again, she answered it to hear a low, terrifying laugh again before the caller hung up.

Barely seconds later, the phone rang once more. The operator shouted, "Ma'am, you have to get out of the house right now. We traced the call and it's coming from the other extension in your house!" The babysitter dropped the phone and as she raced to the front door, she heard the pounding footsteps of someone racing down the stairs. She ran out of the house and collided into a police officer. As the officer and his partner ran into the house they found a man holding a butcher's knife. The murderer had entered the house through an upstairs window, murdered both children and was planning to murder the babysitter next.

Flashed From Behind

A college student was traveling home from school. As she entered one particularly long, dark stretch of forest, a car that had been following her suddenly raced up close and the driver flashed his lights. She accelerated in order to pull away, but the car kept pace and again flashed his lights. She accelerated again, but the car behind her kept up and continued flashing his lights.

Within moments, the student saw an approaching police car. She pulled over and so did the car behind her and the police car pulled up behind them both. The officer quickly got out of his car and raced towards her. The officer pulled her quickly out of the car and before she could ask what was happening he ran back to the car and with his gun drawn, opened the back door and shouted, "Get out of the car slowly with your hands in the air." As the college student watched, a large man holding a knife got out of the back seat of her car. As he was being handcuffed, the man who had been following her told her that he was flashing his lights every time the man would rise up from the back seat to stab her.

The Clown Statue

A babysitter was working one night at a house and after she puts the children to sleep she goes to watch tv in the parents bedroom, because it was closer to the children.

She flipped the lights off and plopped down on the bed. As she pushed the power button on the remote, the room was flooded with light from the television. She saw the creepy statue instantly. It was a fairly big statue of a clown, that had the most sinister look on it’s face. It stood in the corner and seemed to be watching her every move.

Finally, the babysitter became concerned by its presence and called the parents. Upon hearing its description, the mother ordered the babysitter to leave the house immediately with the children and head for the neighbors.

Even not understanding what was happening she did what she was told to and went to the neighbors with the kids.

When arriving at the neighbors, the parents explained the sitter that they never had a life-sized clown statue. Apparently a mentally ill neighbor had been threatening to murder the family. He had dressed as a clown and was laying in wait for them in that room.

Glass in the Fried Rice

A couple had a tradition of ordering Chinese food every Friday night from their favorite local restaurant. One particular Friday night they ordered their usual, which came with a large order of fried rice.

By the middle of the night they were both overcome with excruciating stomach pain and severe bleeding. The husband became so concerned the he called 911 for help. Two ambulances arrived, and as they loaded the husband and wife into the vehicles they also collected samples of the Chinese food the couple had eaten the night before.

Neither the husband nor wife made it to the hospital; they both died of internal bleeding. An analysis of the Chinese food turned up fragments of glass throughout the fried rice. A subsequent inspection of the Chinese restaurant revealed that a disgruntled employee had broken a drinking glass, chosen a random batch of fried rice and poured the tiny glass fragments into the rice. The employee was arrested for the two deaths.

The Dead Dog

A child who woke during the night would frequently hold her hand out to her dog to lick so she would go back to sleep. One night, she was awakened multiple times by what sounded like a dripping faucet. Each time she awoke, she put her hand down for her dog to lick. When morning came, she went into the bathroom to find out what was causing the dripping. In the shower, she discovered her dead dog hanging from the curtain rod, with his blood dripping into the drain. When she returned to her room, she discovered a note which read, "Humans can lick, too."

Here I am showing you only five but you will find literally hundreds of scary urban legends all around the world. Each urban legend typically has several versions to it.

If they are true or not we might never know for sure, but of one thing we do know: urban legends satisfy a human desire to find entertainment and thrills within our deepest and darkest fears.

BRAZILIAN URBAN LEGENDS OF THE 80'S

At the time, most of us had not even heard the term "urban legend", which only became popular in Brazil with the horror film launched in 1998. Still we were scared to death of many of the "stories" below - or all of them. In general, who told the stories swore that had happened to a neighbor's cousin's sister's nephew's girlfriend godfather. In other words with an acquainted.

So to brighten the week, let’s go to a nostalgic session of Brazilian urban legends from my childhood:

1. Xuxa – The Killer Doll
The toy version of the most famous Brazilian’s children shows presenter was already ugly as hell, with mushy legs and arms and weird body dimensions. To worsen it, they needed to create a legend that at night, while sleeping the doll would scratch the child to death. The funny thing is tht this myth arose right before the debut of the movie “Child’s Play” starring the disgracefully bad doll named Chuck.

2. The Knife Inside The Fofão Doll
The male version of the Xuxa Doll but even more evil, someone decided to invent that the Fofão Doll (the doll of a famous fictional character in the former Brazilian children's television show called Balão Mágico) came with a knife hidden inside its body and mesmerized children would open it and make misery with the blade – I mean, cut their parents or friends.

3. Devil’s Secret Messages In Lps
A bizarre characteristic of the 80’s: someone just needed to become successful for everybody to say they had made a pact with the Devil. From Xuxa to The Menudos, very few scaped the rumors. And the legend was that playing the lps backward subliminal satanic messages could be heard. Imagine the amount of broken turntables from people trying to see if it was true back then.

4. The Tenebrous Crying Children Paints
Between the 70’s and 80’s an italian painter called Giovanni Bragoling (also known as Bruno Amadio) produced 27 crying children paintings. The series became a mega success around the world. And rumors that the artist had sold his soul to the Devil and that there had been unexplained fires in homes of owners of these paintings spread. One of the alleged evidence would be easily visible to those who turned the paintings upside down. It is said that a demonic hand clutching the child’s neck would appear.

5. The Surprising And Deadly Infected Needle
Sounds like a Horror Movie starring women that like to gossip but it’s a terrorizing urban legend. It is said that someone had been spiked sitting down on the theater armchair and soon after that discovered to be infected with AIDS or some other deadly disease. There are numerous versions of this legend on the internet, some saying the needle was on the movies and others saying it was on a bus seat.

6. The Snake In The Park
It could have really happened? Yes, it could. But it’s suspicious by the number of different versions widely spread out there.

The terrifying story of a child who entered in an amusement park toy and died because no one noticed that there was a poisonous snake inside of it.

7. The Clowns Gang Of The White Van
Many people today get tense when close to clowns or when a white van approaches. According to the myth a group of clowns in a white van circulated by the cities kidnapping children to steal and sell their organs on the black market.

8. Candy Mixed With Drugs
The legend said that street sellers injected cocaine into candies and sold them near schools to get kids addicted to drugs. This could have happened for real and something like that actually did happened in Rio De Janeiro in the end of the 80’s. Van Melle candies were seized containing drugs inside. But the reason would not have been to get children addicted but to sabotage the competition.

Well, we may never know if any of these urban legends are true or not but as that Spanish proverb says: “Yo no creo en brujas, pero que las hay, las hay”.

DOCTOR NARCISO GOMES SERVES PATIENTS EVEN AFTER DEATH! ARARENSE FOLKLORE? NO, IT REALLY HAPPENED!

One of the most remarkable stories involving the famous dr. Narciso Gomes (1857-1923) - the "Father of the Poor" - was taken by the speaker and broadcaster Cardoso Silva and published in the extinct Araras Newspaper, on June 25, 1953.

Decades later, the writer Emilio Wolff published it in an autobiographical book and, more recently, Professor Adilson Oliveira Costa turned it into a comic book.

This story has a curious passage involving this famous medical history of a supernatural nature, but usually explained for spiritualism, in which he, even after his death, went to see a patient in a rural town. The incident took place in Araras, a little town in São Paulo, and it is considered historical fact in the town. It was in the distant August 24, 1923, date of death of the doctor.

NARCISO, DRESSED IN WHITE (by Cardoso Silva)

Rainy Tuesday. Old streets of blurry mud. And a kind of funeral floor resounded in all corners of the old Araras.

- Doctor Narciso died! ...

There down in the Tiradentes street, the home that was almost to the corner by the missing Aurora Pharmacy (where it is today's shoe store) were getting friendly people, politicians, the people that led a tear to the corpse of the father of the poor in the most touching silent tributes! ...

The town was grim. A slow moving took the creatures to the bier of Narciso Gomes. Holiday spot. Mourning in the souls of the fellows of the great character man. Of the doctor with confirmed wisdom. And the news spreading, more and more:

- Doctor Narciso died! ...

That afternoon the walking companions would take the corpse of the honest politician in the silver coffin to the Municipal Necropolis. The rain continued. Some would say that the sincere nature of Araras mourned too!

* * *

Rain falls. Red mud on wet roads. The house of a poor worker. A sick, gaunt, very pale woman lying on a humble bed. Gasps. Double pneumonia. A client of Dr.. Narciso Gomes. Her husband - a lean and strong fellow - nervous. Noticing the fever dominating the poor wife. And thinking:

- It rains a lot. He will not come.

The patient groans. The husband suffers. Suddenly, knocks on the dry old door. The worker answers. Is the doctor arriving. Dr. Narciso, in person. And as always - all dressed in white. White linen suit. White shoes. White socks. White tie and a white shirt with hard white collar. And - curious! - White hair. Enters. Greets cordial, friendly. As always. And throws the classic question:

- How's our patient doing?

Go to the room. The caboclo's joy is such that he doesn't repair that it is still raining hard outside, but the dear doctor is not wet. That did not bring mud under his feet. That there was not even a coach at the door. The worker does not even remember to ask about the way dr. Narciso arrived there. The doctor examines his patient. Smiles and says:

- You, my friend, still today send this recipe I will give. I will not have to come over again, ya know? Your wife is saved. As long as she takes it, right away the medicine I prescribed.

- Yes, sir, doctor. Right away...

And after writing the recipe, signed and dated. Then, in a fatherly smile, tender, says farewell to his client. And the worker asks:

- When will you be back, Doctor?

- I do not know - Sighed Dr. Narciso.

And seeing that the doctor left the room, the worker asks:

- You're already leaving? Do not want me to accompany you?

- No - it was the answer. To where I go, I must go alone.

And his gesture made the husband stay with the patient. And he left. The worker heard when the door opened and the noise was accompanied by the roar of a strong thunder. The rain continued to fall...

* * *

In the same rainy afternoon. The worker goes into Araras and realize the air of gloom that enveloped the whole town. Goes straight to Aurora Pharmacy. Find it closed. The worker thinks it is a national holiday. Hit the gate, at the side. The lady of the pharmacist answers the man, wet with rain:

- Good afternoon! I came to fill a prescription!

- My husband is not here. He went to the cemetery, the funeral... if you want, you can come in and wait at the drugstore. Not to stay in the rain!

- Thanks, I'll wait!

In the photo, the German Pharmacy, from Paul Kuhlmann, 1914 (Current Shoe Buzolin), in which the episode happened.

The man waited. Sitting on a bench of the characteristic old town pharmacy. Came the pharmacist. He greeted the customer in a smile. But the worker noticed sadness in the face of the friendly pharmacist. The worker explained why he was there, it was a shock:

- But you're sure about what you say? That this happened today?

- Yes, sir. Today... at around two o'clock this afternoon. After he left I took the horse and came quickly because still today I have to give the medicine to the woman!

The pharmacist could take no more:

- I can not believe! At that time we were guarding the corpse of Dr. Narciso Gomes and he, in fact, was fully dressed in white... even the shoes! I'm coming back from the cemetery right now! I'm coming back from his funeral...

The worker turned white. He began to sweat. Gained new impetus and delivered the recipe. There was the dated prescription with the authentic signature of Dr. Narciso Gomes.

Even after death, dr. Narciso, dressed in white, rescued another of his poor ones.

THE PISHTACO

The "Pishtaco", a great history of High Andean origin, is based on the figure of an alien who attacked people and annihilated his frighteningly neighbors. It would be neither more nor less than a mass murderer, a vampire that attacks women and men late at night. The tales of Pishtaco are bloody and frightening, filling with suspicion even the most incredulous mortal.

Who has not heard an interesting and familiar story of "Pishtaco"? who has not felt an icy chill through their body from head to foot to hear the stories of the High Andean people, that tell as the Pishtaco attacked and annihilated villages?

It is unclear where Pishtaco first appeared, but its bloody reputation of Hunter of men has spread to many places of the high Andean region of Peru, some of them would be Junin, Huancavelica, Cuzco, Ayacucho, Apurimac, Pasco and the Sierra de Lima.

This vampire and / or hunter of men and women, enjoys traveling alone and assaulting people through the streets of their towns very late at night, his modus operandi is to behead its victims, then cut them into pieces and separates the skin and fat from the human flesh, and later feed on the flesh of their prey and market skin and fat removed from the victims. They say that if its victims are thin The Pishtaco bury them alive to fertilize the land.

He was described as an athletic-looking man with blue eyes and golden hair like the sun. An alien who attacked the villages and annihilated their inhabitants.

This evil being has its main victims in low-income people, travelers, or people from abroad.

It is said that the fat extracted from its victims is sold to industrial use to make soap, or as an industrial lubricant for large industrial machines and / or technology. It is also said that with the fat extracted from the victims it could have been made healing creams, lotions, beauty, fuel for vehicles, etc..

Locals say that this fantastic character was part of the Government, or was protected, therefore acted with complete freedom to commit its crimes.

THE BLACK CRIPPLED BOY

This story happened in the town of Three Lakes, near Campo Grande - MS.

In the year of 1914 was founded the church of St. Anthony, a beautiful church that lets clear the mixture of our people, because it brings the architectural influence of various cultures, including Japanese. In this church worked a charismatic black boy with a large smile on his face that was always good about life. He had only one hand, but was a devoted caretaker and one of his tasks was to ring the bells of the towers of the church in times of Mass and Ave Maria, telling the people that answered the call of the heavy bronze bells.

But in one dark night the little church was invaded by a thief who was determined to steal anything of value that he could find there. The poor janitor heard the noise of the unexpected visitor and went to check what it was and see who it was, but before he could have any reaction the criminal stabbed him several times with a knife, killing the poor guy.

The next morning the silence of the bells showed that something had happened. The residents went to the little church and saw the terrifying scene of the death of the poor boy so dear to all. Outraged, they formed a task force to take justice into their own hands, the most determined of the group was a farm worker who swore to kill the bad guy at all costs.

Days passed followed by the constant search of the killer and the silence of the bells. Until one night when everybody heard the twelve midnight beats of the church bells. The farm worker went to the tower thinking it was the bad guy and there he saw the soul of the dead janitor, who asked him not to kill the murderer, because only to God belongs the right to take someone's life. And this was done. The search for the killer stopped.

But even today some say that at some nights the spirit of the dedicated young man still commits to his former role of ringing the church bells...

The name of the poor janitor fell was forgotten, until today he is known affectionately by his nickname at that time, the Black Crippled Boy.

This fact has become such an old story that the story became legend, known by few, but always admired by all.

WANDERING JEW

The Wandering Jew, or Ahsuerus Ahsverus also called, is a mythical character, part of Christian oral traditions. He would be a contemporary of Jesus Christ, a resident of Jerusalem, and there, worked in a tannery or a shoemaker's workshop, which was one of the streets where those condemned to death by crucifixion passed carrying their crosses. On Friday of the Passion, Jesus Christ, through that road carrying his cross, was plagued with ironies, or verbally or physically assaulted by Ahsverus. Jesus, then, would have cursed, condemned him to wander the world, never die, until his return, in the end of times.

The versions of the incident vary. One is that Jesus Christ would have fallen under the weight of the cross, right in front of the store where he worked and this Ahsverus, mocking, would have shouted to the condemned man to "walk". Jesus would have answered it, that the shoemaker, was the one who would walk the world until the end of time. A variant of the earlier version says that Simon the Cyrene offered to help Jesus to lift the cross, Jesus would have asked for help to Ahsverus, who refused. And a different version of the legend is it that Jesus actually would have stopped before the tannery and asked Ahsverus to give him a cup of water. Ahsverus would then reply: "If you are the Son of God, make it appear a fountain of fresh water from the ground" and Jesus, then cursed him.

It is possible that the legend of the Wandering Jew has been commenced in the fourth century when a bishop of Armenia or Persia, Constantinople visiting or joining the Council of Nicaea, was quoted as saying in response to an unbeliever, who still remained in their country, alive, a witness to the martyrdom of Jesus Christ. Then we have the popular imagination do the rest, sometimes making a confusion with the figure of an employee of Caiaphas called Malchus with a citizen of Jerusalem called Cartáfilo or even Judas Iscariot, who had somehow, survived the self-hanging.

RESSURECTION MARY

Mary was a beautiful young Polish American girl with long blonde hair and blue eyes. She loved to go out in the evenings dancing. One cold winter night in 1934, she was with her boyfriend at the O. Henry Ballroom, now Willowbrook Ballroom on Archer Avenue in Justice Illinois, a southern suburb of Chicago. The couple had an argument that night and Mary walked out of the ballroom determined that she would rather walk home alone than ride home with her date. She didn’t walk very far up Archer Avenue when suddenly a car skidded out of control and struck her. The driver fled the scene leaving Mary either dead or dying on the side of the cold dark road. She was already dead by the time she was found, and was buried shortly afterwards in Resurrection Cemetery, in her white dress and dancing shoes.

Several years later, drivers along Archer Avenue started reporting strange encounters with a young woman in a white dress. She always appeared to be real person, until she would inexplicably vanish. Motorists passing by Resurrection Cemetery began claiming that a young woman was attempting to jump onto the running boards of their cars. When they stopped to go to her aid, she would be gone. Some even said that their car passed directly through the girl. At that point, she would turn and disappear through the cemetery gates.

The strange encounters began to move further away from the graveyard and closer to the Ballroom. She was now being reported on the nearby roadway and sometimes, inside of the ballroom itself. On many occasions, young men would meet her at the ballroom, dance with her and then offer her a ride home. She would accept and offer directions that would lead north on Archer Avenue. When the car would reach the gates of Resurrection Cemetery, the young woman would always vanish.

Bewildered and shaken drivers began to appear almost routinely in nearby businesses and even at the nearby Justice, Illinois police station. They told strange and frightening stories and sometimes they were believed and sometimes they were not. Regardless, they created an even greater legend of the vanishing girl, who would go on to become Resurrection Mary.

CARNIVAL OF HELL

The Amazon is a region rich in myths and legends, and embedded in the forest there are several cities that blend into the middle of the green mosaic, people live closely with nature and learn to live with it in the midst of fantastic events that for many are just stories, for me it is a cultural heritage.

This story I'm going to tell comes from São Paulo de Olivença, the city of Amazonas state near the border with Colombia and Peru.

It is said that a few decades ago, a city of very strong religious background, as the tradition of the families go to church...

Everything happened in their routine, when it came the most famous pagan festival of Brazil, the Carnival. This time the pastor of the city wanted to re-moralize the city that passed through many changes, especially alcohol-related problems, and this occasion he was merciless with the faithful ones, wanting them to attend the masses he would celebrate during the carnival, the population found themselves in a tricky situation, it seemed that their religious tradition would prevail, but to the surprise of the pastor the population simply disappeared, only a few showed up and this caused the anger of the priest, who pissed cursed: "these stupid people, chose the devil instead of God, so they celebrate it with the devil."

People who heard that were scared, but after the situation they went to their homes.

The party took place in the street with lots of drinking and other earthly delights, the main focus of the festival took place in the square matrix, which is opposite the church.

When they were at about 03:00 am the unexpected happened and they got terrified, not just one person but dozens of people saw nothing more, nothing less than the devil dancing and spitting fire!

Panic swept the crowd and the tumult was made. On the other nights the party continued, but with much less people cause most of them went to church.

SCREAMS OF THE DAMNED

A geological group who drilled a hole about 14.4 kilometers deep in the crust of the earth are saying that they heard human screams. Screams have been heard from the condemned souls from earth's deepest hole. Terrified scientists are afraid they have let loose the evil powers of hell up to the earth's surface.

"The information we are gathering is so surprising, that we are sincerely afraid of what we might find down there", stated Dr Azzacov, the manager of the project in remote Siberia.

The second surprise was the high temperature they discovered in the earth's center. "The calculations indicate the given temperature was about 1,100 degrees Celsius, or over 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit", Azzacov pointed out. 'This is far more then we expected. It seems almost like an inferno of fire is brutally going on in the center of the earth.

The last discovery was nevertheless the most shocking to our ears, so much so that the scientists are afraid to continue the project. We tried to listen to the earth's movements at certain intervals with supersensitive microphones, which were let down through the hole. What we heard turned those logically thinking scientists into a trembling ruins. It was a sometimes a weak, but high pitched sound which we thought to be coming from our own equipment,' explained Dr Azzacov.

But after some adjustments we comprehended that indeed the sound came from the earth's interior. We could hardly believe our own ears. We heard a human voice, screaming in pain. Even though one voice was discernible, we could hear thousands, perhaps millions, in the background, of suffering souls screaming. After this ghastly discovery, about half of the scientists quit because of fear. "Hopefully, that which is down there will stay there", Dr Azzacov added.

What really unnerved the Soviets, apart from the voice recordings, was the appearance that same night of a fountainhead of luminous gas shooting up from the drill site, and out of the midst of this incandescent cloud pillar a brilliant being with bat wings revealed itself with the words (in Russian): 'I have conquered,' emblazoned against the dark Siberian sky.

"The incident was absolutely unreal; the Soviets cried out in terror", says Mr. Nummedal. Later that night, he saw ambulance crews circulating in the community. A driver he knew told him that they had been told to sedate everybody with a medication known to erase short term memory. The Soviets use this drug in the treatment of shock victims.

AOKIGAHARA - THE SUICIDE WOODS OF MT FUJI

Aokigahara is a 35 km² forest that lies at the north west base of Mount Fuji in Japan. The forest contains a number of rocky, icy caverns, a few of which are popular tourist destinations.

The forest, which has a historic association with demons in Japanese mythology, is a popular place for suicides; in 2002, 78 bodies were found, despite numerous signs, in Japanese and English, urging people to reconsider their actions.

Reportedly Aokigahara is the world's second most popular suicide location after San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge. This popularity is often attributed to the 1960 novel Nami no Tō by Seichō Matsumoto, which ends with two lovers committing suicide in the forest. However, the history of suicide in Aokigahara dates from before the novel's publication, and the place has long been associated with death: "ubasute" was allegedly practiced there into the 19th century, and the forest is reputedly haunted by the ghosts of those left to die.

Aokigahara is considered the most haunted location in all of Japan, a purgatory for yurei, the unsettled ghosts of Japan who have been torn unnaturally soon from their lives and who howl their suffering on the winds. Spiritualists say that the trees themselves are filled with a malevolent energy, accumulated from centuries of suicides. They don't want you to go back out.

However, even in these haunted woods, regular humans still have a job to do. Forestry workers rotate in and out of shifts at a station building in Aokigahara, and occasionally they will come upon unfortunate bodies in various states of decomposition, usually hanging from trees or partially eaten by animals. The bodies are brought down to the station, where a spare room is kept especially for such occasions. In this room are two beds: one for the corpse and one for someone to sleep next to it. Yup, you read that correctly. It is thought that if the corpse is left alone, the lonely and unsettled yurei will scream the whole night through, and the body will move itself into the regular sleeping quarters. In inimitable style, the workers jan-ken to see who gets to sleep with the body. And you thought your job was rough!

THE GHOST OF THE NIGHT SHIFT TERRORIZES A HOSPITAL IN SOUTH AFRICA

A supposed spirit is spreading panic in the health center of St. Barnadas, the African country has a strong superstitious tradition in relatin to the ancestors.

A spirit that appears at night has been terrorizing the workers at St. Barnabas in Libode, South Africa so much that those responsible for the hospital opened an official investigation, given the magniture that this matter is taking: The employees now refuse to work the night shift.

Machines go on and off by themselves, visions of a nurse who disappears in thin air and calls at the doors of some medical trainees are part of this nysterious cocktail.

The first report, three weeks ago, came from the medical students that work in the hospital alleging to the director that "at night someone knocks on the door and when we go answer that is nobody in the hallway". At first nobody took them seriously.

The last one to testify that there is a spirit in the building was a worker who says: "I met at night an uniformed nurse with a purse in front of the hospital. I asked where she was going and she said she was going to work and disappeared."

The health center decided then to take the case seriously and they are investigaing the events. "It could be a serious problem for the hospital, since the workers refuse to work the night shift", said the spokesman. "We are also concerned about the operations that occur early, as some machines are switched off in the middle of the intervention", says Kupelo.

In South Africa there is a strong belief in everything that is related to the spirits.

Belief in contact with the ancestors is part of the culture of many people. And the respect for their figure is crucial, specially in rural areas. The health center itself recognizes that this could affect  seriously the operation of the hospital.

APPEARANCE OF "HORSE WOMAN" TERRORIZES THE POPULATION OF JAGUARUANA CEARA

The "appearance" has become theme of the Cordel literature. In Jaguaruana, creativity is not lacking. A story appeared in the city that has left many people affraid to leave home at night.

The subject is discussed in the corners, in bars, schools and even on the radio. According to commets during the nights moves a creature with woman´s body where it should be the horses head resembling a centair (the mythical Greek creature.

The "female horse" when seen by someone starts chasing that person.

To avoid the risk of finding the creature, some young people after leaving a party, join in groups to return home and some curious people are hunting the animal.

Reports of the apparition of the "woman horse" run by the city. According to Geovane, 18 years old, he was leaving the circus on a sunday and while getting home he saw this "woman" that asked him where he was going and he ran scared home being chased by the creature. Neighbors heard his screams, armed themselves with sticks and went after the creature.

According to comments, this "horse woman" was a simple housewife with 3 kids that lived in Rio Grande do Norte. Discovering her husband was cheating on her she got angry and jealous killing her 3 children and making a pact with the devil. The husband, after finding his children dead by his own wife killed her with stabs, but the woman came "back from the dead" to find her children and when she spots someone, goes on to ask for them.

The population of the city is divided. Some believe and say they are scared to death, others say it is more an invention of people´s imagination.

THE ISLAND OF THE DOLLS

In the heart of the Xochimico’s canals, south of Mexico City, Mexico, lies one of the most bizarre locations you’re likely to come upon. It is La Isla de la Muñecas, which translates to “The Island of the Dolls”.

Starting in the 1950′s, a man named Julián Santana Barrera began collecting dolls and placing them throughout this island. It is said that the collection began when he witnessed the drowning death of a little girl. He began seeing her ghost around the island, and the dolls were meant to be an offering or gift to the little lost spirit. Some say he was deeply troubled by the ghost, and the hope was that the dolls would keep her entertained. His collection became an obsession, and he became somewhat of a hermit on the island. He would collect dolls and hang them from trees, tie them to buildings… anywhere he could place them.

Over time, locals came to believe that the energy of the deceased girl possessed the dolls themselves, and that when passing by the island, especially at night, whispers could be heard urging people to come ashore. The dolls have also been reported to move on their own, making the island a place filled with fascination and dread.

In 2001, Julián Santana Barrera passed away. In a mysterious twist, he was found drowned in the same canal where he’d discovered the body of the little girl so many years ago. It is claimed that this once haunted caretaker now haunts the island himself, along with his friends… the dolls.
Julian Barrera Santana died in 2001 aged 50, DROWNED ...
